Generic Viagra and Brand – Why it is more expensive in New Zealand?

December 16th, 2013 | Posted by New Zealand Pharmacy Support in Viagra NZ

Both brand and generic Viagra is available in New Zealand, but there seems to be a price discrepancy with NZ and the rest of world. Viagra, no matter which type is more expensive in NZ than any other part of the world. One reason is availability and the other is demand. There is more demand than product available in New Zealand, but as more customers demand the product, there will be more manufactures and pharmacies offering the product.

Another reason is Viagra spent a lot of money on developing and advertising the product. The way to recover those costs is to price the product as high as the market will pay. With demand high and no other reasonable alternative available, the cost tends to tip on the high side. The marketing and advertising campaigns are also geared to over shadow the generic brand and competition for similar products, adding to the cost of the product.

There are alternatives to dealing with the expense and that is to use half a pill instead of a whole pill, if the desired effect can be achieved with the lower dosage. Buying in bulk usually drives down the price per unit of most products. The sure fire way to drive down the price is to find other sources to purchase the same or similar products. There is nothing that will make a vendor drop their prices quicker than by seeing sales all around and none for them.

Competition will drive price down very quick, but the competition has to be willing to come in or be let in the door. Australia or NZ  is open to trade and business setting up shop, but there has to be an economical way to stock the shelves.  It becomes a competition circle as manufacturers try to outdo everyone else and be the first to the finish line and willing to sell Viagra at prices in keeping with costs around the world.

The general cost of living is more expensive in NZ than in other parts of the world, such as the United States. New Zealand also suffers from an extremely inflated cost structure. To maintain the high cost of living there needs to be a growing flow of credit and that credit starts and stops as the world’s economy turns. The demand for higher wages contributes to a higher cost of living and inflated prices around the country.
